A controlled software-switching plan for small teams

Software switching is a data and workflow project, not a subscription toggle. A reversible plan protects client context and reduces operational interruption.

Decision summary

Keep the cutover reversible

Inventory first, export early, test with a clean sample, run a limited parallel period and preserve a rollback artifact.

What to check

  • Do not cancel before validating exports.
  • Map custom fields and status meanings.
  • Reconcile counts and critical records after migration.

Decision criteria

These criteria define the page. A product is not rewarded for affiliate availability or commission.

  • Inventory
  • Export
  • Field mapping
  • Test migration
  • Parallel run
  • Cutover and rollback

Inventory data and dependencies

List objects, custom fields, automations, documents, integrations, reports, permissions and any external links that depend on the current system.

Use a representative test set

Include active and closed records, missing data, custom fields, attachments and edge cases. Confirm the new system preserves meaning, not only row count.

Keep evidence and rollback assets

Retain dated exports, mapping files, reconciliation results and cutover decisions according to the applicable data and contractual requirements.
